First Iphone Worm : Ikee

The first worm for Iphone has been discovered! Recently, several Iphone users have reported that their Iphone had been infected by a worm, changing their wallpaper into 1980s pop singer Rick Astley's portrait. There'll also be a message on your screen, that is:

"Ikee is never going to give you up."

Just like this :

The worm has been named Ikee, and is rumored to be able to spread itself. Basically, when an Iphone gets infected, it'll automatically search for all vulnerable Iphones within its area and spread. For Iphone users, don't worry, Ikee can only spread among jailbroken Iphones, or those who have lowered their Iphone's security settings in order to download third party programs.

Currently, the virus is quite harmless as it does nothing except changing your wallpaper. But don't let that trick you. If Iphone can be hacked such easily, it's likely that more worms will be on the way in the future. Other inquisitive hackers may also be tempted to experiment once they read about the world's first iPhone worm. Furthermore, a more malicious hacker could take the code written by ikee and adapt it to have a more sinister payload.

The source code is littered with comments from the author suggesting the worm has been written as an experiment. One of the comments berates affected users for not following instructions when installing SSH, because if they had changed the default password the worm would not have been able to infect them.

Oh, and here's the source code :

Who's the writer of Ikee?

A 21 year old Australia student has already admitted committing this "joke", or crime in the eyes of Apple and other Iphone users. The main reason for this was to expose the sloppy security and safety of Iphone, while making others more alert to security glitches. Personally, i think that's just a reason to cover his crime.

So, Iphone users should have learnt from this lesson and shoult be more alert by following instructions and stick to security safety settings instead of lowering them just to install some crappy program. Besides, we don't want tons of worms attacking our Iphone, do we?

Credits to Graham Cluley's blog which i got some pictures and infomation.
